My name is Michael, and I want to learn Mandarin Chinese. I am willing to exchange English.
I want to find a Chinese speaking friend and or mentor.
I was hoping to use some language acquisition methods such as having conversations and also using things like magazines, children's books, and a sketchpad to learn Mandarin as well as teach English. I was hoping to find someone familiar with the ideas of Stephen Krashen's "Natural Method" of "language acquisition" and TPR (total physical response). That basically means how babies learn language.
I am a high school school English teacher (reading literature and writing instruction). My hobbies are playing board games, reading books, cooking Asian food, and teaching my self new things such as languages.
I am an absolute beginner in Chinese. I have some audiobooks and textbooks I use to self-study.
I live in Alabama in the United States, so I am on Central Standard Time (UTC -6) and am affected by daylight saving time.
I am a divorced father of two and keep a teacher's schedule, so this means I am available early in the morning and in the early evening when my children are with their mom. This also means I have extra availability during school breaks and the months of June and July.
